HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO STYLE STANDS ALONE!

This week last year on the 27th of September to be correct, S.S.A blog was thought up by myself. A year on and I have seen and witnessed some amazing sights in the fashion industry. I still get excited and refreshed about what the current modern man should be wearing and the energetic, fun, stylised, lifestyle he leads.

Something different always pops into my inbox every day that's another reason for doing all of this, the buzz. It's hard work putting a blog together with dedication I'm not going to lie. I thank you all that have helped so far whether your the readers or companies that have sent me great messages. With STYLE STANDS ALONE it really isn't about being a "fashionista" blogger. I set up the blog to connect and hopefully offer a space where predominantly modern younger guys could get some ideas of dressing well and other cool elements that would be of interest as their are only a few good mens style blogs in the UK.

As for the future I feel now it's the time to evolve. I have kept this quiet for a few months it was so hard their have been a few meetings very soon STYLE STANDS ALONE will become a website with a cool area (more news to come about this soon).

Until then here's a few teaser (not the finished) snap shots of the first stages of the re-branding and website more on this soon about subscribing, Facebook and the launch!

I'm really excited for the next step and hope you will still follow on the journey with S.S.A.

Thanks everyone for the support, kind words and LOVE!

LONDON FASHION WEEK MENS DAY SPRING SUMMER 2012

There were quite a few installations and sights at Somerset House to see. Seeing something a little difference especially on knitwear is always re-freshing. Brand Sibling always strive to develop something fun, modern and incredibly well made. They haven't failed with their latest collection.

Speaking to Cozette McCreery briefly ( who was lovely to speak to) the bold collection was inspired from the colours and  bright lights of the fun fair and Anglo-Americana.

Striking fun fair typography placed on light weight knitwear and lots of splashes of bold colour. Personally I loved the all over illustration knitted jumper and bottoms. The elaborate artwork and technique looked like biro pen worked straight on to the garment this wasn't the case the technique had been achieved by using just a normal sewing machine! Incredible!

You know when you get excited seeing a garment or collection right? Well we get this feeling from Agi & Sam every season! We can't really fault Agi & Sam for their creative vision and pushing the boundaries totally inspirational for menswear in general. Agi & Sam were top guys to speak too really down to earth and just cool.

We loved all the collection for the boldness of colour playfulness and technical abilties which were involved they always put a smile on my face. The collection for SS12 entitled ‘Tabasco, Tequila and Tomato Juice’, is inspired by the life of Central America, particularly exploring the vibrancy and history of The Day of the Dead festival in Mexico.

The colour palette for the collection is based on CMYK colour model (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black)  as well as the playful work of arhitect Luis Barragan. The idea of colour blocking was experimented to form colour relationship, Bubble gum pinks are blocked against lemon yellows senstive yet expressive colour clashes are seen. Aztec print, Mexican tartans were explored. Stand outs were the chambray trousers, printed trilby and fedora hats. The attention to detail with the digital printed brogues in collaboration with New York based company Osborn were pretty genius.

While seeking out the coolest collections we had to take some pictures of  the stylish guys that were around. Hats off to you we think your looks are stylish!

We liked Editor in Chief of Pickmix magazine Justins relaxed
style was a cool look.

No fashion week would be complete without some celebs guests at the James Small Show. Alex took this sneaky pap shot of Kate Moss & Jamie Hince, Jamie Winstone, Sadie Frost, Meg Matthews who were sitting opposite us. UK Producer and solo artist Labrinth came to the show with his stylists him and his team are always a pleasure to talk too.

Rounding off our experience take a look of the shows of the designers we went too. We loved each and one of them for their uniqueness, modern and edgy visions of what the modern man should be wearing for SS12. We are already excited for a next fashion week and menswear day in only a few months time!

Please take a look S.S.A. on tumblr here to see the extended pictures of our loves during menswear day.

LONDON FASHION WEEK MENS DAY SPRING SUMMER 2012

London Fashion Week and Men's day has been and gone, we were dashing around various locations around London for two days! I can't believe it has flown by so quickly. Seriously Mens day should be two days at least to really enjoy and take in everything properly.

Nevertheless, we really  enjoyed what we saw and experienced. As a blog this was S.S.A first proper scheduled fashion week with press passes. It was a delight to see all the stylish and expressive looks throughout the day.

S.S.A would like to say thank all the designers (you know who you are) that invited us to shows and presentations around various locations in London . To our readers I hope you will enjoy the small insight into Menswear day showcasing S/S12 collections as much as myself and Alex did.

As you know so much happens on menswear day. Here are a selection of designers and looks we found interesting for next season. By all means take inspiration from the designers collections, I believe staying true and original and adding your personal signature to your look.

WHAT WE LIKED

Next season is all about colour prints and accessories. clash or add one element of print be creative inject some fun into your wardrobe. We liked how the Topman Design show brought this to our attention.

Elements of the collection seemed to be "inspired" by higher end designers, however for the great cost factor and details, Topmans a winner. Key pieces included the double breasted blazer jacket, patent leater shoes and above the knee shorts. Keep your eye on those juicy warm Morocccan colour pallets too. What do you think about the man clutches? It's a miss in our opinion we weren't so sure about accessory.

If you don't already know I'm a huge fan of Christopher Shannon. I love the fact that his silhouette embraces street/sportswear culture but he transforms this into a modern expressive way, for SS12 collection Shannon, incorporates using experimental hi-tech fabrics and prints in a confident experimental way.

A Little styling tip to consider, keep your top button done up also think about sheer tops over patchwork shirts for interest adding sporty with cool tailoring for example a tailored trouser.

Keeping all things street the idea of the Afro comb being recycled as creative accessories was inventive although this trend won't take off yet idea and thought brought a smile to my face.

Super tailoring could be seen from Oliver Spencer, Mr Start and Hardy Aimes. We all know that nothing looks better than a well cut suit for sure it's a staple for every mans wardrobe.

Strong SS12 looks came from Mr Start and Hardy Aimes, sleek sharp modern tailoring stood out we liked how teaming a suit with a classic sports trainer (Mr Start) or adding a short for the summer months (Hardy Aimes)kept the over all look stylishy cool. Take a look closer the neckerchief and pocket squares are here to stay for next season. This is a great way to express yourself with a little dash of colour or pattern if your not that confident with full pattern or bold colours.

Martine Rose for MAN always brings so much youth and energy with her collections this always comes across. A favourite of ours was the striped and over sized sheer shirts. The key is adding that slight interest and mixing things up a little having the idea of embellished detachable boot cuffs, trinkets and friendship bracelets added on to CAT boots in collaboration with Australian accessories label -Icon Brand was different.

WE SAW & LIKED

Somerset House is a grand and beautiful period building with winding stair cases and endless rooms. Finding the designer Serdar Uzuntas collection was indeed a discovery it was so well constructed and dapper the presentation was engaging.

Serdar Uzuntas and his team talked us through the collection, which based on five 'English Public Schoolboys' travel to Istanbul and become absorbed and influenced by the culture there.

Arriving in Istanbul looking very 'Eatonian with straw boaters with flowers in the hatband, schoolboy shoes, cignet ring etc. The Eatonian's later evolve into 'Sultan Princes'. The whole space reflected the connection between the public school boy and the adventure in Istanbul.

Jackets were beautifully tailored the collection was styled in way that the models looked like modern and young dandies we fell for the strong Turkish inspired accessories that balanced the collection they were deffinate eye openers accessories can add that extra something to a borring garment.

Moving into another room we came across designers Baartmans And Siegel. Who brought together a strong collection of refined suits slim fit pure and lined suits designed for the modern man. The suede brogues Breton striped cable-knit sweaters and the artwork surrounding the collection caught our eyes it was excellent.

The next post will be part two.
